1. Offer a Ph.D. training program involving coursework and Ph.D. thesis research opportunities in computational genetics. This is designed for incoming students with an interest in computational/computer sciences that would like to apply computational methods to genetics problems. The subtrack would provide training in genetics and computational sciences as it applies to genetics.
  2. Provide students with Genetics/Life Sciences backgrounds exposure to computational genetics. The new courses and seminars developed as part of the subtrack are open to students in all departments and enrich the training experience of a wide range of graduate and some cases, advanced undergraduate students.
