Congratulations to Genetics Graduate Program Alum, Nikale Pettie, PhD (2021), for recently getting published in PLoS Genetics as leading author. Way to go!

"This was an amazing amount of work to obtain the first high-resolution meiotic crossover map in Drosophila yakuba, leveraging on a novel approach Nikale developed during her PhD thesis. This new methodology allowed her to genotype more than 1,600 individual meiotic events. Our paper also reports a very exciting observation: the presence of an active crossover-associated meiotic drive mechanism for the X chromosome that results in the preferential inclusion in oocytes of chromatids with crossovers."
