Arlene Drack, M.D., associate professor of pediatric ophthalmology and ophthalmic genetics in the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, has been granted a $100,000 RPB Physician-Scientist Award by Research to Prevent Blindness (RPB).

The RPB Physician-Scientist awards provide doctors at medical institutions across the United States with funding to be able to devote more time to clinical eye research activities.

Drack is one of 53 physician-scientists at 27 institutions who have received the award since it was established in 2000. No more than five awards are presented each year.

RPB is the world’s leading voluntary organization supporting eye research. Since it was founded in 1960, RPB has channeled hundreds of millions of dollars to medical institutions for research into the causes, treatment, and prevention of blinding eye diseases.
