Susan Shen, MD, PhD
The Shen lab aims to improve the detection and treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders by identifying cellular endophenotypes and their molecular correlates. We are particularly interested in the combinatorial effects of genetic and environmental risk factors as related to neurodevelopment, neurodegeneration, and substance use disorders. We draw upon a wide array of tools from different disciplines, including microscopy, -omics, and functional assays. Ongoing projects in the lab are related to substance use disorders, epitranscriptomics, and cell-cell communication in the brain. By gaining a molecular understanding of both genetic and non-genetic determinants of health, we aim to bridge basic science and health services research to improve mental health outcomes.
