The Ophthalmologist magazine recently named Edwin Stone, M.D., Ph.D., to the 2016 Power List, a list of the top 100 most influential people in the world of ophthalmology.

Stone is a professor of ophthalmology and visual sciences at the University of Iowa and is the director of the Wynn Institute of Vision Research. Stone and his lab lead interdisciplinary efforts to develop cost-effective, cutting-edge technologies for diagnosing and treating eye disease.

"We are extremely pleased that Dr. Stone has received such richly-deserved recognition," said Jean Robillard, M.D., UI vice president for medical affairs and dean of the UI Carver College of Medicine. "He is a world-class clinician, researcher, and educator. We are deeply grateful for his service to all those affected by blinding eye diseases, not only in Iowa but across the nation and around the world."

Stone’s research focuses on the genes linked to macular degeneration, glaucoma, and heritable photoreceptor degeneration.

"This recognition by his peers highlights the significant impact Dr. Stone is having on the families struggling with degenerative eye disease as well as the global research community,” says UI President Bruce Harreld. “Ed is an extremely valued member of the UI family and I join all of us in congratulating him for this well-deserved recognition."
